Center For Disaster Philanthropy
CDP set up a fund to support preparedness, containment, response and recovery activities for those affected and for the responders.
International Rescue Committee (IRC)
IRC works in countries that have weak health systems which are less prepared to combat the disease. Vulnerable populations and those living in crisis will be hit the hardest by this outbreak. They’ve launched coronavirus preparedness and response programs in over 40 countries, including the United States, Greece, Syria and Yemen. From sharing crucial information in Italy to training health care workers in Syria to continuing their vital work with refugees in the U.S., their teams are on the ground responding to the outbreak every day.
Nami
They have seen a dramatic increase in requests for services which include support groups and education. Their phone line – the most comprehensive mental health helpline - has a 40 to 50 percent increased call volume. Funding will help them support long-term capacity building as the impacts of quarantines, job losses etc. will be felt for many years in the future. NAMI’s plan includes 1) ensuring access to timely, practical mental health information, 2) bolstering the capacity of NAMI’s helpline and 3) fortifying their network of NAMI affiliates and NAMI State Organizations.
Save the Children
In response to the impact of the coronavirus in the U.S., STC is launching a new partnership with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry and Scholastic to ensure families know how to find meals when schools are closed;. They are supporting mobile meal trucks, food banks and other community feeding programs. In addition, they are providing educational toys, books and worksheets and supporting programs to help kids make up for lost time in the classroom. In addition, they are distributing critical supplies, providing support to their U.S. border shelter partners and putting in place plans to support children through the summer, after school programs and social/emotional learning programs. At the global level, they are preparing response plans for all 120 countries where they work, with special attention to scenarios of high transmission rates in low-resource countries.
Feeding America
Donations will enable food banks to secure the resources they need to serve the most vulnerable members of the community during this difficult time. This includes building an inventory of emergency food boxes and distributing them to member food banks across the country, as well as working to get incremental funding to support other anticipated costs. Feeding America is also working with government leaders to ensure the emergency response includes strong supports in food, funds, and flexibility for federal nutrition programs. Member food banks have started shifting operations, adding more mobile or “drive-thru” distributions wherever possible.
