2021 Haiti Earthquake Disaster Response and Recovery Fund

About

On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern part of Haiti. Bright Funds has established the 2021 Haiti Earthquake Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. This fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of nonprofits in this fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Your Donation Supports

Americares

Americares has initiated two shipments of intravenous fluids, medicines and supplies to Haiti so far. Additional shipments to supply health workers treating the injured with antibiotics, wound care supplies and urgently needed medical supplies will be sent in the coming days. Americares relief workers on the ground in Haiti are assisting the local response and more emergency response experts will be deployed to Haiti from the U.S. and other countries in the region this week. Americares is in close coordination with their local partners, including local health centers and NGOs, such as Hope for Haiti. Americares has worked in Haiti since the 1980s, supporting health centers and local organizations with donated medicine and medical supplies both in response to emergencies and ongoing needs.

Care

CARE teams have begun distributing core relief items including tents and water in Grand Anse, following the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake. CARE teams on the ground have noted a huge and immediate need for temporary shelter, water and other core relief items. CARE will be undertaking an assessment of the specific needs of women and girls and making sure it takes their specific concerns and voices into account in the response we mount. CARE has cyclone response supply kits already pre-positioned which will be sent to affected communities.

World Central Kitchen, Inc.

They deployed cooking equipment to Haiti to expand operations. They are making meals for responders following the earthquake. They are supporting local partners as they transport doctors south and evacuate the injured.

Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon is working with partners to get an initial team on the ground in Haiti to assess the situation and determine a response. Their roots started in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. They have two recon teams heading to Haiti to conduct a need assessment and begin recovery operations.

Save the Children

Save the Children has a long history of responding to natural disasters, including the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Save the Children has been a leading charity for children in Haiti since 1978, and through sponsorship since 1985, providing a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. Save the Children has offices in Camp Perrin and Les Cayes and plans to respond. They are providing water purification tablets, supplies to construct an emergency shelter and nutritious food for families in crisis.
