In the aftermath of the Pulse tragedy, victims and their families are left with a new reality and a multitude of needs, from long-term mental health counseling, the rehabilitation of homes and vehicles to better accommodate the victims who continue their recovery, and even victims who must find new jobs or careers because they have difficulty returning to their former jobs due to injuries or trauma caused by the incident.
The OneOrlando Fund is committed to taking the outpouring of support and provide it directly to the victims’ families and survivors in a quick and transparent manner to provide much-needed support of these needs.
Draft Distribution Protocol Released
Today, Kenneth R. Feinberg, Administrator of OneOrlando Fund, released a draft Protocol that outlines the proposed process for the distribution of the OneOrlando donations directly to victims’ families and survivors. Click here for more information on the process and to review the protocol.
In addition to feedback from, Equality Florida and the National Center for Victims of Crime/National Compassion Fund, the OneOrlando Fund Board is encouraging input from victims’ families and survivors of the Pulse tragedy and the Orlando community. Two town hall meetings will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Amway Center to get feedback from the public.
More Support is Needed
While it might be tempting to look at the amount that the community has raised so far, almost $20 million at this point, and think “that must be enough,” no amount will ever be enough.
With hundreds of people potentially eligible for this money, someone who needs a lifetime of care may not even have enough money to pay for their hospital bills let alone their lost wages, the ramp that they need installed at their house or the future surgeries they might need because they have a bullet still inside them.
