Fit4Surgery - Best possible outcomes for all surgical patients Fund
The Fit4Surgery foundation was established in 2016 by a group of surgeons. Fueled by their daily practice they saw the importance of physical and mental fitness of their patients. An increasing support was felt that improving health should be an integrated part of medical treatment.
A prehabilitation program is a program for patients who need major surgery or invasive treatment. The program consists of physical training, improving diet, treatment of comorbidities (like heart disease or diabetes), mental guidance and help to quit smoking and drinking alcohol. This results in an improved condition when surgery or treatment starts and subsequently improved surgical outcomes and recovery. Data shows that prehabilitation can prevent up to 40% of complications!
Prehabilitation is not (yet) standard care in the Netherlands. The Fit4Surgery foundation informs healthcare workers, patients, helps hospitals with the implementation of prehabilitation, executes lobby, initiates, and supports scientific research. And therefore, we need financial support.
The board and most personnel of our foundation have daily jobs as healthcare workers and work for the foundation voluntarily.
