Friends of the Australian Koala Foundation Inc

The Australian Koala Foundation team are watching the fires closely and our Chairman, Deborah Tabart OAM is evaluating each fire as it happens. We are trying to determine whether Koalas are in those habitats or whether they are empty. Of course, by empty we mean empty of Koalas, but our concern for the biodiversity, and of course all others animals is also front and centre. It is a time for patience but we can assure you that our patience for a Koala Protection Act is also front of mind. It is needed more than ever; it is our key mission and we will not back away from the urgency.

We support Australian organizations, like Australian Wildlife Conservancy, that have a track record of conservation success and focus on practical, on-ground action, world-class science and measurable results. AWC is currently working to support various organisations to help save endangered wildlife affected by these fires.

Center For Disaster Philanthropy

As with all disasters and large-scale emergencies, it is much more effective to donate money to groups already engaged and coordinating on the ground at the disaster site. They often have the ability to take that monetary donation and double or triple its value through their local partnerships. Do not donate hard goods such as clothing, food and water, medications or other items unless there is a specific request from an organization already working in Australia. Organizations engaged in this disaster are already stretched beyond their capacity, and they are unable to effectively receive, sort or distribute donated goods at this time. Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) has a Global Recovery Fund that provides an opportunity for donors to meet the ongoing and ever-expanding challenges presented by global crises.
