Pars Equality Center
Your donation will help to rapidly process immigration paperwork for the surge of Afghans seeking refuge in the U.S.
Since August 15, 2021 more than 25,000 Afghans in danger from Taliban retribution in Afghanistan have sought the services of Pars Equality Center (Pars) in San Jose to file immigration paperwork. This small organization has been inundated and has risen to the occasion during this urgent time of need by developing a national repository with an online screening system for Afghans in need of legal assistance. Pars has developed a trained pool of more than 700 volunteer attorneys to assign Afghan immigration cases.
However, two bottlenecks have occurred, slowing down the process, and your donation can remove them! Pro bono volunteer burnout is putting pressure on the existing Pars staff to take the backlogged cases requiring Humanitarian Parole applications for Afghan allies fleeing the Taliban. Pars staff is also grappling with increasing demand from Afghan new arrivals who need assistance in obtaining legal status in the United States. Your donation to scale up staffing at Pars to respond to this unprecedented demand can sustain Pars legal services and get Afghans the help they need.
